The Amano Shrimp is one of the most popular and effective freshwater algae-eating shrimp in the hobby. Originally popularised by legendary aquascaper Takashi Amano, these hardy shrimp are renowned for their relentless appetite for algae and detritus. With their translucent grey bodies and subtle spotted markings, they add both beauty and function to any planted aquarium.
Behaviour & Compatibility:
Amano Shrimp are peaceful, active scavengers that spend most of their time foraging. They thrive in groups of 5 or more and are completely safe with non-aggressive tank mates such as small tetras, rasboras, snails, and other dwarf shrimp species. Their size and activity make them a great choice for community tanks and aquascapes alike.

Why We Love Them:
Few shrimp are as useful or iconic as the Amano. Theyβre tireless workers, excellent algae controllers, and a perfect fit for planted aquariums. Their elegant simplicity complements any aquascape and keeps it naturally balanced.
