Daisy’s Blue Ricefish is a small, strikingly coloured freshwater fish with brilliant blue fins and a subtle silver body. Peaceful and hardy, it adds vibrant colour and delicate movement to planted aquariums and nano setups.
Origin:
Native to Sulawesi, Indonesia, these ricefish inhabit shallow, slow-moving waters, often in rice paddies and small streams with dense vegetation.
Behaviour & Tank Role:
-
Peaceful, active schooling fish; best kept in groups of 6 or more.
-
Mid-to-top dwellers; complement other small, non-aggressive species.
-
Ideal for nano, planted, or community tanks where their colours can shine.
Care Requirements:
-
Tank Size: 20L+ for a small school.
-
Temperature: 23–28°C
-
pH: 6.5–7.5
-
GH: 4–12 dGH
-
TDS: 100–200 ppm
-
Provide gentle flow, floating plants, and open swimming areas.
Feeding:
Omnivorous: accepts micro-pellets, finely crushed flakes, frozen foods (daphnia, brine shrimp), and small live foods. Feed small amounts 1–2 times daily, removing uneaten food to protect water quality.
Breeding Tips:
-
Egg scatterers; lay eggs on fine-leaved plants or spawning mops.
-
Eggs hatch in approximately 7–10 days.
-
Fry are very small and require infusoria or liquid fry food initially, then gradually transition to baby brine shrimp and micro foods.
-
A separate breeding tank with stable water parameters increases survival rates.
