The Pygmy Corydoras is a charming, tiny schooling catfish loved by aquarists for its playful nature and peaceful temperament. Native to the rivers of Brazil, this miniature species is ideal for nano and planted aquariums, bringing life and activity to the lower and mid-water levels. Despite their small size, they’re full of personality and thrive when kept in large shoals of six or more.

Behaviour & Compatibility:
Unlike most Corydoras that stay near the substrate, Pygmy Corydoras often swim mid-water, darting together in synchronised movements. They’re incredibly peaceful and do well with small, non-aggressive fish such as rasboras, tetras, and dwarf shrimp. Perfect for community aquariums and planted setups.

Care Requirements:

  • Temperature: 22–26°C

  • pH: 6.0–7.5

  • GH: 3–10

  • KH: 0–6

  • TDS: 80–200 ppm

  • Diet: Omnivorous – enjoys micro pellets, crushed flakes, frozen daphnia, and baby brine shrimp.

  • Tank Size: Minimum 40L

  • Temperament: Peaceful, shoaling

Breeding:
Breeding Pygmy Corydoras is achievable in home aquariums with stable water conditions. They lay adhesive eggs on plant leaves or aquarium glass. After hatching, fry can be raised on infusoria and powdered fry food until large enough to take baby brine shrimp.

Why We Love Them:
Few fish bring as much energy and charm to a small tank as the Pygmy Corydoras. Their schooling behaviour, gentle nature, and adaptability make them a top choice for nano and planted community aquariums. They’re proof that even the smallest fish can make the biggest impression.
