The Convict Corydoras is a striking and characterful bottom-dwelling catfish, recognised for its bold banded pattern and active behaviour. Hardy and adaptable, this Corydoras species is an excellent choice for community and planted aquariums, where it brings constant movement and natural behaviour to the substrate.

Like all Corydoras, Convict Corys are social fish that thrive in groups, making them both entertaining to watch and highly effective at keeping the aquarium floor lively.

Behaviour & Compatibility:
Convict Corydoras are peaceful and social, best kept in groups of six or more. They spend most of their time foraging along the substrate and do well with other calm community fish. They are shrimp-safe with adults, though very small shrimp or fry may be eaten.

Care Requirements:

  • Temperature: 22–26°C

  • pH: 6.0–7.5

  • GH: 3–10

  • KH: 0–6

  • Diet: Omnivorous – sinking pellets, wafers, frozen foods, and live foods

  • Tank Size: Minimum 60L

  • Temperament: Peaceful, shoaling bottom dweller

Breeding:
Breeding Convict Corydoras is achievable in home aquariums with stable water conditions. Eggs are typically laid on glass, plants, or hardscape after a temperature drop or water change. Fry can be raised on infusoria and powdered foods before transitioning to baby brine shrimp.

Why We Love Them:
Convict Corydoras combine classic Cory behaviour with bold, eye-catching markings. Their peaceful nature, social habits, and hardiness make them a fantastic addition to planted and community aquariums.
