The Ember Tetra is a small, brilliantly coloured schooling fish that brings a warm, fiery glow to any aquarium. With their vibrant orange-red bodies and peaceful nature, they are a favourite among aquascapers and community tank enthusiasts.

Origin:
Native to the slow-moving tributaries of the Araguaia River basin in central Brazil, Ember Tetras are found in soft, acidic waters with dense vegetation.

Behaviour & Tank Role:

  • Peaceful Schooling Fish – Best kept in groups of 8 or more, where they feel secure and display their best colours.

  • Ideal for planted tanks and nano aquariums, where their bright colour contrasts beautifully against greenery.

  • Perfect tank mates for small, non-aggressive fish and dwarf shrimp.

Care Requirements:

  • Tank Size: 40L+ (minimum for a group).

  • Temperature: 23–28°C.

  • pH: 5.5–7.0.

  • GH: 1–8.

  • TDS: 80–200 ppm.

  • Diet: Omnivorous – will thrive on a varied diet of quality flake, micro pellets, frozen foods, and live micro foods (e.g., baby brine shrimp, daphnia).

Breeding Tips:
Breeding Ember Tetras is possible in the home aquarium. They are egg scatterers, releasing eggs among fine plants or spawning mops.

  • A separate breeding tank with soft, acidic water is recommended.

  • Adults do not guard the eggs and may eat them, so providing dense plants or removing adults post-spawning increases survival rates.

  • Fry are tiny and should be started on infusoria or liquid fry food before transitioning to baby brine shrimp.

Why Choose the Ember Tetra?
Their fiery colour, active schooling behaviour, and ease of care make them an ideal choice for beginners and experienced aquarists alike. They’re hardy, peaceful, and perfectly suited for planted community tanks.
