The Red Steel Caridina Shrimp is a striking selectively bred variety of Caridina. These shrimp add an unmistakable splash of colour and elegance to any shrimp tank and are especially popular with breeders and collectors of rare Caridina lines.

Origin & Lineage:
The Red Steel shrimp is a man-made strain, derived from selective breeding of Taiwan Bee Caridina varieties. It does not exist in the wild but has been stabilised through generations of careful breeding.

Behaviour & Tank Role:

  • Peaceful, non-aggressive, and best kept in colonies of 10+ shrimp to encourage natural behaviours.

  • Excellent algae grazers and biofilm feeders, helping to maintain a clean tank environment.

  • Ideal for species-only tanks or with other compatible Caridina of similar requirements.

Care Requirements:

  • Tank Size: 20L+ dedicated shrimp tank recommended.

  • Temperature: 20–24°C (cooler end preferred for longevity).

  • pH: 5.5–6.5.

  • GH: 4–6.

  • KH: 0–1.

  • TDS: 100–160 ppm.

  • Diet: Specialised shrimp foods, blanched vegetables, biofilm, and occasional protein supplements.

Breeding Tips:

  • Red Steel shrimp breed readily in stable, shrimp-dedicated setups.

  • Females carry eggs (berried) for 28–32 days before hatching into miniature versions of the adults.

  • For best breeding success, keep in soft, slightly acidic water with minimal fluctuations.

  • Avoid housing with fish, as fry are vulnerable to predation.

Why Choose Red Steel Caridina? Their red-and-white combination, striking patterns, and relative hardiness (compared to other high-grade Caridina) make them a prized addition for any shrimp keeper looking to expand into more advanced Caridina varieties.

Livestock Disclaimer:
Shrimp are sold as unsexed juveniles/sub-adults. We do not guarantee sex ratios and supply mixed batches.
