The Sparkling Gourami is a tiny, jewel-like labyrinth fish, famous for its iridescent, shimmering spots and unique vocalisation — males produce soft “croaking” sounds during courtship. Ideal for small, planted aquariums, they are both visually captivating and full of character.

Origin:
Native to Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, Sparkling Gouramis inhabit slow-moving, shallow waters with dense vegetation and abundant cover.

Behaviour & Tank Role:

  • Peaceful, slow-moving species; best kept in groups of 3–6, with one male per small group to reduce territorial behaviour.

  • Mid-to-top dwelling; ideal for nano and heavily planted tanks.

  • Compatible with other small, non-aggressive fish and shrimp.

Care Requirements:

  • Tank Size: 20L+ for a small group.

  • Temperature: 24–28°C

  • pH: 6.0–7.5

  • GH: 3–12 dGH

  • TDS: 80–150 ppm

  • Provide floating plants, calm water, and low to moderate flow; a covered tank is recommended as they may jump.

Feeding:
Omnivorous: accept micro-pellets, finely crushed flakes, frozen foods (daphnia, baby brine shrimp, bloodworms), and live microfoods. Feed small amounts 1–2 times daily and remove uneaten food to protect water quality.

Breeding Tips:

  • Sparkling Gouramis are bubble-nest builders.

  • Males build small bubble nests among floating plants or leaves and guard the eggs until hatching (~24–36 hours).

  • Fry are tiny and require infusoria or liquid fry food initially, progressing to micro-worms and baby brine shrimp.

  • Calm, well-planted conditions with stable water parameters improve breeding success.

Why Choose Sparkling Gouramis?
Their iridescent sparkle, miniature size, and charming courtship behaviour make them perfect for nano and planted tanks. Peaceful, hardy, and captivating, they are ideal for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike.
